Summer Practice Strategies

For Best Results, Practice Daily!

·        Set up a “practice station” complete with your flute, music stand, metronome, and music so that you can practice at any moment throughout the day.

·        Pick up some “fun music” from a music store or print it online.  Alternate your lesson assignments with songs from your favorite movies.

·        Work intensely on one or two scales per day.  That way by your next lesson they have all had some TLC.

·        While watching TV, keep your flute nearby and practice a scale during each commercial.

·        Arrange practice dates with other flute players.  Ask me for email addresses of students at your level.

·        Try to teach someone else how to play.  Perhaps a younger sibling or neighbor, or even mom or dad.  You’ll be surprised by how much you learn by teaching others.

·        Reward yourself for practicing- try only eating dessert or playing video games on the days you practice.

·        Parents, ask your student what they’re working on in their lessons.  Sometimes just talking about music can influence a student to practice.

·        Students, organize your own summer recital.  Turn the TV off and play a few songs and scales for your family and friends.  Or if you’re a little shy, practice this first on pets.
